Opening Weekend: Pick'em

Finally!!! It's the opening weekend of College Football, and everyone should be getting ready to do a little tailgating. We cannot debate all the games but we can argue over who our own teams play and what the score will be, so I have posted just that and I hope I do not leave anyone out. Also, I have added a few big match-ups:

1. LSU at MS State

I think State will keep it close for about, oh, one quarter - then LSU pulls away.

Winner LSU: 38-13

2. Western Kentucky at Florida

The Gators open up with a powerhouse in the Hilltoppers. Umm, no-brainier.

Winner Florida: 6-54

3. Marshall at Miami

New Coach for Miami and the hope that he can control that team. I think he can and they should get back to winning, but I expect Marshall to give them problems early.

Winner Miami: 13-27

4. GA Tech at Notre Dame

This should be a good match-up that could go either way. Notre Dame punched Tech in the mouth last year, but I expect Tech to get some revenge on a young Irish team.

Winner GA Tech: 16-10

5. Ole Miss at Memphis

This match-up has grown over the last few years, even though Ole Miss still holds a slight advantage. Still, Memphis has a great chance of taking this one. Expect a lot of Jarvis Green-Ellis for Ole Miss and not much offense from each side (in my opinion).

Winner Ole Miss: 12-7

6. Tennessee-Martin at Southern Miss

After opening with Florida last year, I guess Bower decided to start out with an easy one. Which is fine considering their next two foes. This should be a good indication to see if this will be the year all Southern Miss fans have been looking for.

Winner Southern Miss: 7-45

7. Tennessee at California

Another good battle that could go either way. Last TN donkey punched the bears and I'm sure that left a sour taste in the mouths of the boys from Calli. The bad news is I believe TN may do it again, but in their own backyard.

Winner Tennessee: 34-20

8. Western Carolina at Alabama

Yes, the Tide open with those Catamounts of Western Carolina - a true test for the now Saban led Crimson and White.

Winner Alabama: 9-41

**Other Good Games and My Wise Picks:

Kansas State at Auburn: Auburn 17-27

Oklahoma State at Georgia: Georgia 16-17

Washington State at Wisconsin: Wisconsin 13-24

Colorado State at Colorado: Colorado State 21-20

Wake Forest at Boston College: Wake Forest 17-13

Florida State at Clemson: Clemson 17-23

ROLL TIDE!!!!

Sorry Brian, I had to do it - it's just so damn funny!! Roll Tide!!

The Top-25

This is the AP top-25. There are some debatable teams on this list - among mine include Georgia, Florida State and TCU. I mean, does Georgia even have a QB yet? Florida State seems to be on the declining each year, but they are always up there, and TCU, well, they are still hoping Baylor gets kicked out of the Big-12. The three teams that should be in their place (beside Southern Miss) is Oregon, South Carolina or Oklahoma State. Just my opinion.
Also, who will be the team to knock USC off their #1 spot? My pick - UCLA
1. USC 2. LSU 3. West Virginia 4. Texas 5. Michigan 6. Florida 7. Wisconsin 8. Oklahoma 9. Virginia Tech 10. Louisville 11. Ohio State 12. California 13. Georgia 14. UCLA 15. Tennessee 16. Rutgers 17. Penn State 18. Auburn 19. Florida State 20. Nebraska 21. Arkansas 22. TCU 23. Hawaii 24. Boise State 25. Texas A&M
Others Receiving Votes: Missouri 128, Georgia Tech 94, Boston College 75, Oregon 73, South Carolina 69, Miami (FL) 68, Alabama 66, Oregon State 42, Wake Forest 40, South Florida 28, Arizona State 17, Brigham Young 14, Southern Miss 12, Notre Dame 11, Virginia 7, Clemson 6, Oklahoma State 3, Texas Tech 2, Purdue 1, Houston 1, Kentucky 1, North Carolina State 1.

It's time to make your prediction of your teams and since we have a variety of people on here with different teams, I decided to put them all:

Southern Miss 8-4

Look I love to think this is the year, and while we will still be the only team in State to go to a Bowel game, Southern Miss and Bower will still be unable to live up (I'm hope I'm wrong). We may surprise either TN or Boise (most likely Boise) but we will disappoint by dropping one or two in C-USA that we should not and end going to Mobile or Birmingham for a Bowel (yet again I'm hope I'm wrong). The teams weakness: Offensive Line. Strength: Defense & Running Game

MS State 6-6

Each year there getting better, slowly. So, I expect to see them win more than last year.

Ole Miss 4-8

The Good News: Coach O can recruit the hell out of some players. The Bad News: He can't coach. They keep getting talent and it's going to be interesting to see if they can put anything together on the field.

Alabama 7-5

It's Alabama and their in a SEC West that (in my opinion) will be up in the air. Yes, their young but they are talented and I expect to see those two RB from MS (Grant & Johns) make some noise.

Tennessee 8-4

It's sad that they in the East of the SEC - it's a tough road on that side with them beating up on each other throughout the season.

Miami 8-4

Miami always has the talent and I think the new coach will have their head on playing and not fighting this year.

A Few Others:

Texas: 10-2
USC: 11-1 (watch out for UCLA)
LSU: 8-4
Auburn: 9-3 (win the west)
Florida: 9-3
Louisville: 10-2
West Virginia: 9-3
South Carolina: 9-3 (may surprise)
Notre Dame: 7-5

College Football: Only a Few More Weeks

I'm proud to announce that I will be attending the opening game at the "Rock" in Hattiesburg, MS. Unfortunately, it's not against a better team that U of Tenn-Martin. If we do not beat them by 40 I'm going to drink a fifth of Yeager. Anyways, I read where last years Ole Miss Heisman candidate will be moving to receiver. Is it me or is that a common thing at Ole Miss. Their last two QB's both move positions after a season of getting busted in the mouth by, well every team in the SEC.

I guess their fans can expect one close, nail biting game - against Memphis.

Then LSU opens with MSU. I'm not sure if I even should comment on these two teams, so I will let Brent take this one: .........

Hey Matt, How's Birmingham? Been in the middle of any circle jerk Roll Tiders (listening to journey, ha)?
