Harvick Wins A Wreck-Fest at Daytona

The first part of the 49th running of the Daytona 500 was pretty quite, with the 43 drivers jocking for early position. The only caution came when Boris Said spun, clipping the #00 Domino's Pizza car driven by David Reutimann. Of coarse, this changed as the laps started to dwindle down.

Two large may lays left much of the field searching for sheet metal to fix their race cars. This included Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch who were running one-two until Stewart got loose and Busch could not slow up quick enough, bumping Stewart, sending them both into the wall and out of the race. Later, Jimmie Johnson lost control of his #48 Chevy, collecting 3 or 4 other race cars.

In the end it came down to a battle between veteran Mark Martin and Kevin Harvick. It looked as if Mark would finally claim that Daytona 500 victory but a late push by Matt Kenseth, sent Harvick by Martin at the line by not even a half-a-car length.

Afterwards many questioned the calling, why did not NASCAR freeze the field, after Kenseth and Kyle Busch tangled before the finish line (like in the Daytona truck race a few years back). Well, NASCAR did not and Harvick claimed the prize, his second win of the weekend.
