Opinion: The #88 Car

Ok..so far we know that Dale Jarrett will be leaving Yates Racing after this year to drive for Michael Waltrip and Toyota Racing. So, who will take over driving the #88 Ford for Yates Racing in 2007?? There have been a few names thrown into the rumor mill including Casey Mears, and Brian Vickers. Please let me know which driver you think will take over.

The only way I can see guys like Mears or Vickers, who are with established race teams already, leave for a struggling team (Yates Racing) is for a lot of money.

RYR has been struggling for the better part of 2 years now. They have made some changes in recent weeks, but it will take time to see if those make a difference.

I honestly think they are going to have to look to some of the up and coming Busch Series drivers, b/c the young Cup stars haven't had long enough with their current teams to determine if they are going to be successful.

However, I think if the price is right, any of these young guys could make the move, but I'm not sure its in their best racing interest as far as being competitive and winning.

And I think the real question here is...will UPS follow Dale Jarrett to Toyota or will they stay with RYR?

I honestly can't see anyone but Dale Jarrett driving the "brown truck" and doing those great commercials.

I agree Josh. The lure of money from Toyota will be hard to turn down for UPS.

I think they should go get a young driver. Maybe Burney Lamar or Jon Wood.

well, after reading an article on www.thatsracin.com, i learned that Casey Mears will not be back with Ganassi Racing next year, and Vickers has asked for and been granted permission to pursue other options.

So, I guess the possibility of Yates Racing landing one of those two guys is a good possibility. I still think it will come down to money with these guys and who gives them the best opportunity to win. They both are young, talented drivers, but neither have yet to win in their short careers.

Will be interesting, but I still think the bigger story (or more interesting) is where UPS will end up. I hope they go with Jarrett to Toyota.

I read that to on nascar.com about Vickers but I thought Casey Mears was trying to work it out to remain with Chip?

The fact is Toyota will buy what ever sponsor they want.

Ok..here ya go Josh. I think Vickers will go to the #88 and Casey Mears will take his place at Hendricks.

As far as UPS..they will go with Jarrett. Toyota is all over that.

I guess we will have to see.

I think Ward Burton could be a possible choice for Ganassi.
